Where are the kits with the instructions? The kits with instructions are exclusive to Urban Maille. Aislyn designed them and has the copyright to them. She & I have an agreement that allows me to sell the refill kit packs only. Golden Maille was born because so many of her customers wanted to try the same patterns in gold filled after they had completed the original kit in sterling silver. Can I tumble my gold filled chain? Yes! I always tumble my chains after I finish them. Usually for about an hour, but I have forgotten it and left it tumbling for about 4 hours with no ill effects. *s*
How do I clean gold filled jewelry? There are several methods to clean gold filled jewelry. Now, I use an Ionic Cleaner but before I got that, I used the small jars of jewelry cleaner from the drug store. You can also use Dawn dishwashing liquid & an old toothbrush to scrub it, then rinse it well & pat it dry. When I sell a chain, I include a Care & Cleaning card: Although 14kt Gold Filled jewelry will not tarnish, it will get dirty. The oils from your skin transfer to the metal and need to be washed off periodically. The easiest way to care for your handcrafted chain is to scrub it with an old toothbrush and Dawn dishwashing liquid. Rinse it well and lay on a towel to dry. Be sure it is completely dry before storing. Can you add something to my order? Unfortunately, it's not easy for me to just add stuff to your order because of the way things are set up with my credit card processor. I never actually get your credit card number. It goes to the processor & they don't pass it along to me. It's safer for you this way but it's a hassle in times like this. Go ahead & place a second order, if it's at all possible, I'll ship them together & refund the second shipping charge.
Your clasp doesn't look like the one in the Urban Maille Watch/European 4-in-1 kit. As you probably already know, there aren't as many choices when it comes to gold filled clasps. So I had to choose the one that was the closest to the one they use. Unfortunately, it's not exact so you'll have to make some minor changes to the Urban Maille instructions. It just takes a couple of extra rings at the end to attach the clasp. Here's a picture of my watch so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.
What is the difference between gold filled and vermeil? Vermeil is gold (usually 18k or 22k) electroplated onto sterling silver with a minimum thickness of 2.5 microns. (Regular plating is less than 2.5 microns.) Gold Filled has a much thicker layer, between 15 and 45 microns, that is mechanically bonded to the basemetal with heat and pressure. The thickness depends on the gauge of wire. It is thinner on 24 gauge than 14 gauge, but it always equals at least 5% of the total weight.
Why didn't my shipping address show up on the confirmation email? The confirmation email comes directly from the credit card processor. They only need the amount and the billing address so they ignore everything else. The shipping address is included on the "official" order that comes to me from the shopping cart.
